My husband and I traveled to the Altai Tavan Bogd region of Western Mongolia for eight days in late August. We met our guide, Pyeka. We traveled by horseback or on foot, along with our chef, Alma, and our driver, Syerik, through the truly beautiful, untouched glaciers and snow-capped mountains. Pyerizat (Peka) knows the nomad families in the area well and maintains good relationships with them, responding promptly to our needs. We stayed at the home of nomad Shonka in the Snake River Valley and met his three adorable daughters. Peka even brought a skewer, so we could barbecue during our trip. She even provided a shower, so we were lucky enough to shower twice during our trip. Our driver, Syerik, was an excellent fisherman and caught a trout over 60 centimeters long, which we enjoyed as fresh and delicious fried trout. The Altai Tavan Bogd region was truly beautiful, and our guide, chef, and driver were all warm and welcoming people. I hope to visit this beautiful region of Western Mongolia again next year.
